How long do Crypto Fear & Greed regimes last?
Transition probabilities
A score of 72 says Greed. It does not tell you whether Greed lasted another day or several weeks. The transition matrix counts the index zone 1, 3, 7, or 30 days after each historical starting zone.
Streak survival narrows the sample to completed runs that had already lasted at least as long as the current streak, then counts how often those runs continued.
Sentiment is not a price signal
The same Fear & Greed zone can occur during very different Bitcoin price paths. Greed can persist while BTC rises or falls, and Extreme Fear can last longer than a single trading setup.

Data and methodology
Historical daily readings come from Alternative.me. Transition probabilities count the destination zone after the selected horizon. Streak survival uses completed runs that had already lasted at least as long as the current streak. Similar-score statistics start within three index points of today's reading.
What does the Crypto Fear & Greed Index measure?
It summarizes several market sentiment inputs into a score from 0 to 100, where lower readings represent fear and higher readings represent greed.
What is a transition matrix?
It counts how often the index moved from one sentiment zone to another after a chosen number of days. It describes historical persistence and transitions rather than predicting the next reading.
What does streak survival mean here?
It measures how often historical runs in the current sentiment zone lasted at least a specified number of additional days after already reaching the current streak length.
Is Fear & Greed a buy or sell signal?
No. Sentiment can remain extreme for long periods, and the same index zone can occur during very different Bitcoin price paths.
